In the period 2004-2008 standardized death rate for motor accidents before 65 years in Portugal decreased 42,6%, from 13,7 to 7,9 deaths per 100 000 population. The value of the indicator in 2008 was below its 2010 target in National Health Plan.

Standardized death rate for motor accidents before 65 years decreased in all Regions, from 2004 to 2008. Norte, Centro and Algarve showed the most relevant relative decreases in that period (around 50%).

Standardized death rate for motor accidents before 65 years, in Portugal, showed large relative decreases, between 2004 and 2008: 43,9% for males and 38,3% for females.
The value of this indicator increased only for females in Alentejo. However, the relative small number of female deaths in this Region causes high interanual variability.
