The percentage of children needing dental treatment and having benefited from such treatment at age 12 increased by 144,4% from the 2002/2003 school year to that of 2005/2006, from 18% to 44%.

During the 2005/2006 school year, Centro and Algarve showed a positive variance in relation to the overall value for mainland Portugal. The other regions registered lower values (the lowest being 41% in Norte).
