From the 2002/2003 school year to that of 2005/2006, the percentage of pupils with treatable special health needs, and whose problems had been solved by the end of the school year, decreased 3,8% from 53% to 51%.

During the 2005/2006 school year, Norte and Alentejo showed a percentage of students with solvable special health needs who have their problem solved by the end of the academic year lower than the overall percentage for mainland Portugal. In the other regions, percentages were higher, especially in the Algarve (70%).
