The percentage of schools presenting good conditions of health and hygiene in buildings and enclosures increased by 38,9% between the 2002/2003 and 2005/2006 school years, from 18% to 25%.

During the 2005/2006 school year, Centro, Alentejo and Algarve showed a positive variance in relation to the overall value for mainland Portugal. The other regions showed lower values (the lowest being 20% in Norte).
