Standardized death rate for suicide before 65 years, in Portugal, decreased 31,7% between 2004 and 2006, but after 2006 started increasing. In 2008 were registered 5,7 suicides per 100 000 population.

There’s a contrast between the high rates of suicide before 65 years in the southern Regions of Portugal and the low rates in the other Regions, especially in Norte. This contrast was observed all over the period analysed. Mortality by suicide decreased in all Regions, with relative decrease being more relevant in Norte (30,2%, between 2004 and 2008).

Standardized death rate for suicide before 65 years decreased in all Regions, between 2004 and 2008 but registered minimum values in 2006, both for males and females.
