Standardized death rate for alcohol-related diseases before 65 years, in Portugal, decreased 10,9% between 2004 and 2006, but show an upward trend since 2006, more evident for males.

In 2008 standardized death rate for alcohol-related diseases before 65 years was above national average in Norte, Centro and Algarve.

In Portugal, standardized death rates for alcohol-related diseases for males before 65 years are far above female rates and the gap is growing. In fact, between 2004 and 2008 mortality by this cause registered a relative increase of 5,5% for males and a decrease of 13,9% for females.
