The number of patients discharged per hospital bed per year increased 9,6% (from 31,8 in 2004 to 34,9 in 2007). Despite of this increase, the indicator value is still below National Health Plan target to 2010 (50 patients discharged per hospital bed per year).

The number of patients discharged per hospital bed per year increased, between 2004 and 2007, in all Regions. During this period, the highest value was registered in Algarve (over 40 patients discharged per hospital bed per year). Regional values for Centro, Lisboa and Alentejo were below national average.
