Despite of being already above National Health Plan target to 2010 (60 Family/General doctors per 100 000 inhabitants), the value of this indicator decreased between 2004 and 2006 (from 64,7 to 62,2 per 100 000 inhabitants). In 2007 this trend was reverted. By that year the number of doctors per inhabitant showed a slight recuperation, reaching 62,7%ooo.

From 2004 to 2007, the number of Family/General doctors per 100,000 inhabitants in Portugal decreased 3,1%. The ratio Public Health doctors/inhabitant was higher in Algarve, all over the period.
