The number of dentists per 100 000 inhabitants, in Portugal, showed a relative increase of 78,0%, raising from 35,9%ooo, in 2000, to 63,9%ooo, in 2008.

In the period 2004-2007 the number of dentists per inhabitant increased in all Regions. The relative increase was higher in the Centro Region (34,1%). In 2008, the number of dentists per inhabitant in Alentejo Region was far below the national average (29,1%ooo versus 63,9%ooo).

In Portugal, the number of male dentists increased from 27,5%ooo, in 2004, to 32,2%ooo, in 2008 (relative increase: 15,3%). The value of this indicator raised in all Regions.
For female professionals the relative increase was higher than for male professionals: 31,3%, from 2004 to 2008.
