Average time of internment in Portuguese hospitals is decreasing slowly. The value of this indicator in 2007 (8,1 days) was still distant from National Health Plan target to 2010 (6 days).

Regional analysis revealed that, on average, patients of Norte and Algarve Regions spent less time in hospital internment than patients of other Regions.
In the period 2004-2007, average time of internment decreased in all Regions. Alentejo showed the relative decrease more relevant (7,6%).
