Between 2004 and 2008, in Portugal, standardized death rate for ischemic heart disease before 65 years decreased 33,4%: from 15,1 to 10,1 deaths per 100 000 population. Since 2007 the values for this indicator are below 2010 target defined in National Health Plan 2004-2010.

Regional values of standardized death rate for ischemic heart disease before 65 years decreased in all Regions, between 2004 and 2008. Norte and Centro showed the most relevant relative decreases. Also, their rates were far below national average, in the period analysed.

Standardized death rate for ischemic heart disease before 65 years, in Portugal, showed relative decreases of 34,3% for males and 30,5% for females, between 2004 and 2008.
In 2008 the interregional variability was not so high as in 2004. However the North-South pattern persisted and was evident both for male and female mortality rates.
