In Portugal life expectancy from 45 to 49 years increased 0,8 years for males and 0,9  years for females, between 2002-2004 and 2006-2008. Despite of the increase, the most recent value (35,6 years) is still below the National Health Plan target to 2010 (37,0 years).

Between 2002-2004 and 2006-2008, life expectancy from 45 to 49 years increased only 0,4 years in Algarve. In the same period, the largest increase was 1,0 years, in Lisboa Region.

Between 2002-2004 and 2006-2008, life expectancy for males 45 years old living in Algarve Region increased only 0,1 year (from 32,5 to 32,6 years), while an increase of 1,1 years was registered in Lisboa, in the same period.
For females, the increases were between 0,8 years (Centro, Alentejo and Algarve Regions) and 1,1 years in Norte.
